Our guide, who was also the sous chef at the resort where we were staying in Luang Prabang, claims these are meerkats. I said, well, I’m not 100% sure, but aren’t meerkats native to Africa, and this small mammalian species is actually squirrel? He assured us they were indeed, meerkats and not squirrels. So if you’re ever in the neighborhood of Laos and want some cute, cute rodent-like snacks, order the meerkats.

These aren’t just catfish. These are humongous catfish the size of a small child. I should have gotten a small child to stand next to them for perspective.

Mary suggested that I Photoshop little X’s over their eyes but I couldn’t because that’s just unspeakably heartless, and also my Photoshop skills are even poorer than my photo taking skills.

Mary wanted to know how I knew they were naked mole rats and not just skinned moles. I just knew...
